How We Became Story Collectors

This started as curiosity, not commerce. A fascination with why some streets feel alive while others don't.

The Beginning

In 2018, one of our founders was researching Melbourne's early theater scene for a university project. What began as archival work became an obsession—not with facts, but with the gaps between them.

Why did certain venues close while others adapted? What made a neighborhood shift from working-class to artistic? How do cities forget their own stories?

Those questions led to walks. First with friends, then colleagues, eventually strangers who wanted more than surface-level tourism.

Our Approach

We don't believe in scripted presentations. Each guide brings their own lens—one studied migration history, another worked in urban planning, a third spent years documenting street art before it became marketable.

What unites them is a refusal to simplify. Cities are messy, contradictory, and constantly rewriting themselves. Our walks reflect that complexity.

We keep groups small because conversation matters. A question from one person often shifts the entire walk's direction. That's not a bug; it's the point.

Who Guides These Walks

Dr. Julian Hayes

Heritage Researcher

Spent a decade analyzing Melbourne's architectural evolution. Specializes in buildings that almost disappeared and why they mattered enough to save.

Aisha Patel

Cultural Storyteller

Former journalist who covered urban development. Now focuses on how immigrant communities shaped neighborhoods often credited to Anglo settlers.

Marcus Nguyen

Street Culture Documenter

Photographed Melbourne's street art scene before it became tourism. Knows which works were acts of defiance and which were commissioned branding.

Eleanor Frost

Environmental Historian

Traces how the Yarra River went from indigenous highway to industrial waste channel to contested public space. Walks often start at the water.

What Drives Our Work

We operate on principles that emerged from doing this work, not from business plans.
